Brooklyn Man Dies After Being Pulled From Ocean In Long Beach
A man was reported dead on Monday after he and another man were pulled from the water off of Long Beach, Long Island. The men who were said to have been swimming in the ocean without a lifeguard on duty, when an emergency call came in at 6:26 p.m were treated by lifeguards and first responders. CPR was administered to one man while the other was rushed to the hospital.
Police reports say one of the men was OK, but the other — a 26-year-old from Brooklyn died. Speaking on the horrific event, Police says it was still unclear if rip currents were to blame, but other beaches were taking precautions heading into the unofficial last weekend of the summer.
Vital Lifeguard Equipment Gets Stolen From Storage Container In Wales
Elsewhere in Wales, Vital lifeguard equipment was stolen on Tuesday, August 31, 2016, night when a large storage container was broken into outside Port Talbot lifeboat station. Materials stolen included an all-terrain vehicle, used daily by RNLI lifeguards. A member of the public who tried to stop the break-in was injured as a result.
Speaking on the incident, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor, Robert Steele said “This will not affect the charity’s safety service on Aberavon beach this week. The lifeguards will continue to provide a daily safety service to members of the public until the end of the summer service which comes to the end this Sunday.
All the team at Port Talbot RNLI would like to send our best wishes to the man who was injured whilst trying to help last night.”
In Hillsborough, England, A Lifeguard Refuses To Be Dubbed “Hero” After Saving Teenager
And in Hillsborough, England, Fast-thinking Lifeguard, Adam Hurrell, from Chapeltown, jumped into the water at Hillsborough Leisure Centre after spotting a teenager lying on the pool floor. Hurrell dragged the unconscious teenager onto the poolside and resuscitated him before paramedics took over. Hurrell has been a lifeguard for three years but said he has never had to deal with such a serious incident. Colleagues and friends have praised his actions but the lifeguard said he was just doing what he has trained to do.
Speaking on the incident, Hurrell said “I saw this lad underneath the water and, at first; nothing seemed amiss because he wasn’t in that deep. But I saw blood coming from his mouth and I jumped straight in. “I pulled him out and another lifeguard sounded the alarm – I started with the CPR and the lad came round after about a minute and a half and then the ambulance arrived.”
A Family of Three Has Been Saved By Off-Duty Lifeguards At Southeast Cornwall Beach
Meanwhile, at the southeast section of the Cornwall beach, Lifeguards rescued a family of three from what would have been a disastrous event. The family reportedly got caught in a strong rip current and big surf at Tregonhawke beach on Sunday (28 August 2016) evening.
Senior RNLI lifeguard Dan Holley and volunteer RNLI lifeguard Tegan Louis-Puttick were holding surf lessons at the beach when they spotted a young bodyboarder in difficulty in two-meter high surf. Dan quickly jumped into action, rescuing the boy from the strong rip but whilst doing so, his father and sister tried to rescue him as well and ended up getting into trouble themselves. Tegan arrived with the surfboard to help the remaining two casualties from the rough conditions with the help of a member of the public with a surfboard.
