ISRO, Lifeguard Agency Collaborate To Study Killer Tides
The beaches in Goa are known to attract millions of tourists yearly. While the concept of tourists having fun on Indian waters is quite welcome, the unpredictability of the tides give beach goers a little something to be worried about.
This is why the Indian Space Research Organization, in partnership with a private lifeguard agency, is undertaking a study on rip tide effects and killer tides in the ocean in an effort to protect and make its beaches safer.
With the aid of a special high-tech device and the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System as well as a navigation receiver, team of scientists, and lifeguarding specialists, the presence of active rips along some beaches on January 31 to February 1. The results were documented for future research.
It is recorded that rip tides are causative factors of most drowning incidents, and the ISRO intends to reduce these numbers, by studying them.
