Kelly Slater Becomes A Lifeguard (Sort Of)

11 Time World Surfing Champion Kelly Slater, along with other well known surfers, saved Australian surfer Russell Bierke Wednesday during a freak surfing accident in Port Campbell, Victoria, Australia. Bierke wiped out and was rendered unconscious and was submerged underwater for nearly a minute. He was subsequently dragged to shore by surfers and Kelly Slater then directed that they call for an ambulance and assisted with gathering the accident victim’s vital signs and then relaying that information to first responders.

Bierke was transported to an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
