Lifeguards this month Rescue a Kid, a Baby, and a Dolphin?

The efforts of lifeguards and their importance tend to be ignored even as these unsung heroes sacrifice everything including their lives to help other stay alive and happy. Over the past few weeks, lifeguards in different parts of the world have continued to contribute their quota to creating a happy world and some of the brave rescues made by different lifeguards are briefly highlighted as follows.

Teenage lifeguard rescues young swimmer in Davidson County

A Lexington teenager has been described as a hero in her first week as a lifeguard at the Southside Swim Club as she saves a young swimmer in Davidson County. 15-year old Leah Morrison was in her first week on the job and had to quickly swing into action to save the life of a young boy who almost drowned during a swim test at the Southside Swim Club.
“Sunday Night there was a 5th grade elementary school graduation party and we have to do a swim test to be able swim in the deep for safety reasons. While one of the fifth-grade boys was doing it, he gave the dead stare. We asked him if he was okay and he said no. Shortly after, we saw him start to go under,” said Morrison.
“I went to throw my whistle off, which didn’t help because it went in the other side of the pool, but I just jumped in and I wrapped my arm around him and brought him back and let him take a deep breath,” she continued.
Leah received praises from different people with Tammy Peele, a board member at the Southside Swim Club, expressing his appreciation of her effort and how she handled the incident. “She was quick to react to the rescue so the boy could be at home with his family instead of another number,” Peele said.

Lifeguard rescues 10-month-old baby at Jersey Shore

Seaside Heights Beach Patrol Capt. Rob Connor somewhat had a feeling that it was going to be a busy day as he told his crew during a call “to be ready for anything.” However, the day was shaping up to be relatively uneventful until noon after LaQuaglia was relieved from his post to have lunch.
Ten minutes later, as LaQuaglia was served his meal, a woman started screaming on the boardwalk between Sumner and Webster avenues in front of the Midway Steak House. LaQuaglia immediately dropped his pizza to rescue the 10-month-old boy who was choking on what appeared to be one of those loose plastic rings that sometimes remain around the nozzle of an open water bottle after breaking off from an unscrewed cap.

Lifeguards rescue dolphin at California beach

It was another good day for lifeguards at a California beach as they saved a dolphin that was struggling in shallow water before ending up on the sand. According to the Los Angeles County Lifeguards, the lifesaving crew put in a call Thursday to Marine Animal Rescue when the dolphin was spotted acting erratically in the shallow waters just off shore at Hermosa Beach.
The dolphin washed ashore shortly after the call and the lifeguards subsequently helped Marine Animal Rescue transport the dolphin to a private lagoon in Redondo Beach.
