Teens Practice for the Challenging Role of a Lifeguard

Brad Moffett, during an interview, accepted that Lifeguarding is one of the toughest jobs for the summer season. This 17-year-old school student is joining the summer lifeguard job for the second time.

After his first work session as a lifeguard, he gained huge experience from this job. Today he believes that this job helped him to learn the real value of life.

A Former lifeguard, Rachel Stumbo, who was a co-worker of Moffett also agreed with this statement. They worked together at Casa Solana Pool. Stumbo is also a 17-year-old student at Desert Academy and he says that Lifeguarding is the best summer job because it helps to learn the skills for life including first aid and CPR. However, none of them had an opportunity to save a life during their work hours. They simply prevent the unwanted accidents by making people aware that they should not run, fight or horse around in the area.

Certification is essential for this job. Studies reveal that most of Red Cross programs need compulsory certification from applicants and they must be of at least 15 years old. To get the job, applicants need to demonstrate their fitness skills by swimming in a wide area of 300 yards. They also need to tread water for at least 2 minutes using legs only. At that time, applicants also get trained for first aid, CPR and AED to earn the required certification to serve as a lifeguard.

Another enthusiast Bolleter, who served as a Lifeguard during his teenage years, later joined Santa Fe Fire Department by the age of 19. He shares his experience by saying that this job gave him an opportunity to prove his skills and also made him able to handle the responsibilities of a real adult.

Experts who train youngsters for Lifeguarding reveal that during training they focus on teamwork, responsibility, and quality serving skills so that they can serve people of all age groups.

As per reports presented by International Life Saving Federation, most of the drowning cases are observed for children under 5 age group and those of above 60 years. The lifeguards need to stay active all the time to prevent the accidents.

Most young lifeguards consider saving lives their major responsibility. They believe that they make full efforts for that one minute struggle to save the life of drowning people. These people believe that Lifeguarding is a job of respect and courage.
